“How can an enormously complex, multi cell organism—the human being— with incomprehensibly complicated interactions between the parts, maintain orderly functioning in the first place?”
Ayurved’s answer to this question is that, at its deepest level, the body has an “inner intelligence” that guides it. This fundamental field of intelligence is called Atma in the Vedic literature. According to the ancient texts, the inner intelligence of the body is an expression of the holistic intelligence that is the basis of all nature—the totality of all the laws of nature responsible for the orderly functioning of the universe. The description of this field of intelligence, or “consciousness,” is strikingly similar to the description of the “unified field” posited by modern quantum physics.
Imbalances can develop within the mind—body if the free flow of this guiding intelligence, from consciousness to mind and body, is hampered at any level. When an individual continues to violate one or more of the laws of nature that structure health, imbalances accumulate and diseases eventually occur.
It holds that healing arises from this deepest, most holistic level of mind and body, effecting changes on the surface by stimulating homeostatic and self-repair mechanisms.it places primary importance on the field of consciousness, thus it is also termed consciousness-based medicine.
The underlying basis shared by all chronic disorders is the lack of full enlivenment or expression of inner intelligence in the mind and body. Blockage of the expression or “flow” of intelligence in any part of the system leads to weakness of self-repair in that area and, consequently, to disruption of normal function and vulnerability to disease.
Transcendental Meditation allows to enliven the flow of consciousness in human physiology and, simultaneously, to remove blocks or impurities that are inhibiting its full expression and smooth functioning.

Ama = Autophagy
Something that has been neglected by Modern Medicine for years. But now then Nobel prize in Medicine has been given in 2016 for discovery of mechanics underlying “Autophagy “
Autophagy is body’s ability to digest
Auto if self , phagy Is to eat .Autophagy has been identified as a mechanism to purify the waste physiologically.Helps in the elimination of Viruses, Bacteria and Funguses.
Modern medicine recognizes the problem of accumulation of waste material. The main cause of amyloid deposits in the cells.Basically the waste product of neurons which doesn’t get purified.eg.in Alzheimer’s
Phages eating cells form a part of the immune system become active on 12 hours of eating. When we start to be hungry our stomach and small intestine start to activate this process.Autophagy starts when we are hungry.
Ama concept is now entering the Modern Medicine which now understands it is something that accumulates in the cell interstitium.Cell waste is same as Ama in Ayurveda.Every cell has its Agni. All the cell discharge ( waste ) is called Ama has to be cleared.Sometimes this accumulates in the body and the body can be overwhelmed leading to a strong foundation for many diseases.
Autophagy counteracts the negative effects of aging.Ayurvedic Routine stimulates Autophagy ( Hunger gap between dinner and breakfast )
AyurVeda offers a wide range of purification methods called Ama Pachana & panchakarma.
AyurVeda mentions Golden rules of Diet
Ayurveda always considers this Gap after dinner approx 12 hours before breakfast that stimulates Autophagy.( Ama pachana)
- Regular meal times;
- Eating only when hungry,
- avoid binge snacking between meals,
- Avoid overeating,
- having only an early light dinner.
- Six tastes must be included in the food
- eating and drinking with attention to maintain a healthy gut and digestion.
- Mind has an effect on digestion so it’s not advisable to eat food watching TV , playing video games etc.Different emotions like anger, grief have a direct impact on hunger. So it’s good to focus on food while eating.
- Eat food hot , with some ghee , not in excess ( half the stomach) chewing properly, not too fast or slow.
- We begin eating with sweet and sour tastes , salty , spicy and astringent in the middle and bitter at the end.
- Salt intake should be restricted as it may trigger the aging process.
- Wrong food combinations & stale food should be avoided.
- The gap of 12 hours between dinner
- Spices in the diet

The Microbiome
I had developed Alopecia Areata suddenly some time in May 2012. By Oct 2012, I hardly had any hair on my scalp and had to cover my head to avoid weird glances from strangers and probing questions from friends !! During these 5 months, I was running from one dermatologist to another, trying various ointments and steroid based prescribed medicines.
Then, on the suggestion of my dermatologist, was directed to meet an Ayurveda doctor (they are called Vaidya/Ayurvedacharya) Vaidya Rohit Bartake ! Ayurveda and Vaidya Rohit Bartake came as god-send and that’s when I first got introduced to Ayurveda. (later realized that as a child, all the home remedies that my granny and mom used to give were loosely based on the science of Ayurveda).
Ayurveda is such an ancient science and is so holistic , that I am surprised why and how it gets replaced by any other type of medicine. It should be more widely used – as the ‘medicines’, if one can call the mixture that is made up of all natural ingredients. And the type and proportion of the ingredients is determined not just by the ailment being addressed, but by the body, mind and emotional state of the person on whom it is being administered upon. As each individual is unique, their metabolism is unique, state of their mind and emotions are unique, Ayurveda prescribes a unique approach to each individual taking all these factors into consideration !! Where can you find such detailed applications of science !!
I still remember my first session with Vaidya Rohit Bartake, which was for nearly 2 hours. After going back far into my history, and asking the right questions to know the details about the general state of my metabolism/health, emotional state and mind set, Vaidya Rohit then went on to formulate the course of my treatment. (Stress seemed to be the main reason for the onset of this particular condition – which allopathy hadn’t correlated.)
There was something Vaidya Rohit Bartake needed from me first, before he would even consider beginning the treatment – and that was having the faith – Faith in his approach and faith in Ayurveda! As I knew, at a very basic level, that Ayurveda uses only what is available in the nature, which is also there within us, and nothing artificially produced was going to be injected into me. And the diligence and detailed approach that Vaidya Rohit had taken to approach the entire treatment was so different and so unique and so genuine, that I recollect not having even one ounce of doubt about the doctor. So, faith was already established without my knowledge.
However, I had heard various stories about Ayurveda and its side effects from colleagues – so clarified my doubts on those. I was for the first time, not actually bothered about my appearance or about looking like a zombie and being looked at – as for the first time felt like things were going to improve on my scalp front from here on – I was ready to be patient and follow the vaidya’s advice!!
The Ayurvedic treatment entailed a few kadhas – concoctions, which had to be boiled in water and had twice a day. They were prepared only by Vaidya Rohit in his clinic. I followed the prescription to the T and had weekly visits to the doctor. I was also advised to change my diet slightly so that the food I took was most suitable to my body type, and also did not hamper the effect of the kadhas.
After few weeks I was prescribed some local application for the scalp. Doctor also advised me to apply a paste of onion and ginger on my scalp.
By the end of Feb 2013, I was positively looking like a healthy person, and had a glowing face. I could feel the change in my body. I began to feel fresh and light and energetic.
To enhance the effect of the medicines, Dr Rohit gave me an additional kadha and also suggested that I go in for leech therapy. I had never heard of this before but went along with the suggestion of the expert and had 4-5 leech therapy sessions. I thank the leeches from the bottom of my heart !!!!
By now it was the end of April 2013, and there were positive results on my scalp just about beginning to emerge.
I used to visit my dermatologist too – to keep that doctor also informed about the progress. This was more to just thank that doctor for introducing me to Vaidya Rohit and to the Ayurvedic approach.
Slowly and gradually things started going back to normalcy. Vaidya Rohit had also reduced the kadhas and we were on the path of withdrawing the treatment gradually. Alongside, my other issues, which I hadn’t even remotely linked to one another had disappeared, like my monthly cycles, rashes on my face which I had taken as a normal thing, attributing it to pollution, dull face etc.
Soon, I had a beautiful crop on the field of my head, and it was a healthy looking crop ! So much so that, people began asking me what am I doing to have such wonderful looking hair ! I said Ayurveda and Vaidya Rohit Bartake.
My treatment soon ended, with certain advice to be followed – rather incorporated into my daily routine – like my diet, taking up some form of exercise, having appropriate rest and sleep, and meditation to keep my mind calm.
I followed the advice, and as I write this note, am once again tying my hair up and getting ready for my yoga class !
I first heard about Ayurveda 4 years ago and it was that moment that changed my life.
I got the answers I needed for mostly all of my problems , especially health problems, as from lack of health come all the others.
I have been suffering for 16 years from Eczema(or dermatitis or inverse psoriasis as none of the allopathic doctors would say the same). There came a moment where my skin in different parts of the body(visible and not visible) would go dry, itchy, inflamed and bleeding in blisters creating so much discomfort that made me cry not only from pain and discomfort but also emotionally as my skin was not good looking.
Only from following ayurvedic tips and lifestyle and the recommendations about food, lifestyle and herbal preparations from the ayurvedic doctor, Vaidya Dr.Rohit now 90% of my eczema is healed.
As it is a chronic disease I still have to take care about my food and lifestyle as it requires time and patience to have wonderful and amazing results, but being well and looking healthy will always be worthwhile!
I totally recommend you to consult a vaidya if you really want to remove the disease from its roots or you just want to prevent future illnesses and maintain your health in the long term.
I was not feeling so good at that period ,so when I did my marma therapy I felt like channels had opened in my body and slowly slowly I was getting back my well-being.
